Markl's Boat at Rapture

I live in Rapture Bay, a fishing town hit by a bad storm many years ago. Only one man died, the town's reckless mayor Markl. I was to young to remember, but my mother would tell me the legend of him. "Some say he made a bargain with devil that day. " She would softly say during afternoon meals. "He gave his life to keep the town safe. They say you can still see his black boat in the ocean during sunrise, guarding the town as it's owner once did. " I went to the elder, The bait seller, one day during the last days of my youth and asked him was the story true. He grunted and chewed down on his pipe. " I told him." The old man would say. " I told him to stay in the shore. He said ' I want to challenge god. ' Now look where the fool is at. Just another ghost leading a dead ship along. One thing about the story is always argued my boy. Did he talk to god , or the devil. Nevertheless, whoever he did, we small people know best not to reckon with things greater than us. "
